HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — After delivering a rousing performance on her due date at last weekend's Grammy Awards, M.I.A. has welcomed her first child.
The 31-year-old singer and her fiancé, musician Benjamin Bronfman, welcomed a baby boy on Wednesday, she revealed Saturday on her MySpace blog.
"He is healthy, fine, beautiful and the most amzing (sic) thing ever on this planet," wrote M.I.A., whose real name is Mathangi Arulpragasam.
M.I.A said she was still in the "mood to party" after she got home from the Grammys, only to have early-stage labor arrive around 2 a.m. that morning.
The pop star was joined by Jay-Z, T.I., Lil Wayne and Kanye West in performing "Swagga Like Us" at the Grammys, where she was nominated for two awards.
The London-born star is expected to perform the "Slumdog Millionaire" song, "O Saya," at the Feb. 22 Academy Awards, with more big plans to follow after that.
"Me and [my] baby are putting our tour dates for 2010 together and making mix tapes," she wrote.
