WASHINGTON — Tim Russert, the longtime moderator of NBC's "Meet the Press," died from a heart attack Friday while on the job. He was 58.
Russert, who also worked as the Washington bureau chief for NBC News, was recording voiceovers for Sunday's "Meet the Press" when he collapsed, the network said.
Russert took over "Meet the Press" in December 1991. The show, which is currently in its 60th year, is the longest-running program in the history of television.
Earlier this year, Russert was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine.
Russert was a native of Buffalo, N.Y. He is survived by his wife, Maureen Orth, who works as a writer for Vanity Fair magazine, and a son, Luke, who recently graduated from Boston College.
