HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Matt Damon has signed on for the Clint Eastwood-directed film "Human Factor," according to Variety.
Damon will portray rugby star Francois Pienaar, who along with Nelson Mandela created an event that gave whites and blacks in South Africa a common cause to rally around as the country was healing from years of apartheid.
The film is an adaptation of John Carlin's book "The Human Factor: Nelson Mandela and the Game that Changed the World."
Morgan Freeman got the blessing of Mandela and brought the project to his close friend Eastwood. He also previously joined the cast to portray Mandela.
Shooting is expected to begin early next year in South Africa.
The 37-year-old Damon is currently busy shooting the Steven Soderbergh film "The Informant."
