BALTIMORE — R&B star Mario is speaking out after he was arrested early Friday for allegedly assaulting his mother inside the Baltimore apartment they share.
"I love my mother very much," the 24-year-old singer, who was charged with one count of second-degree assault, tells Us Weekly.
Shawntia Hardaway claims her son was "throwing and damaging property" and pushed her during the incident. Police found several broken items inside the apartment, including a damaged china cabinet, a busted mirror and a large hole in the closet door.
Hardaway, a former heroin addict, alleged it was the second attack in less than a week. The singer's mother claimed she hit her head days earlier when Mario pushed her "eight feet into a living room wall."
But a source tells Us Weekly that Mario was simply trying to calm his mother after he came home and found her "cracked out on drugs" – this after she allegedly ran up his credit cards to support her drug habit.
"I will continue to support her any way that I can," Mario told the mag.
