HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Mario Lopez has been announced as the new host of the syndicated entertainment television show "Extra."
The San Diego, Calif. native has worked for the program since 2007, serving as a correspondent and co-host of the show's weekend edition.
"Mario ... has established himself as a highly engaging, likeable and sought-after host and personality," Hilary Estey McLoughlin, president of Telepictures Productions, said in a statement.
The 34-year-old Lopez, who rose to fame as A.C. Slater on "Saved by the Bell," will assume daily hosting duties on Sept. 15.
"Extra's" current co-host, Dayna Devon, is expected to remain with the show as special correspondent. Her partner, Mark McGrath, is leaving after three years to focus on his music career career. His band, Sugar Ray, is currently hard at work recording a new album.
