NEW YORK — Madonna is giving back-to-school shoppers a sneak peek at the new junior collection she's launching with her 13-year-old daughter, Lourdes.
The first sketches of the "Material Girl" collection, set to debut at Macy's stores on Aug. 3, have just been released. In addition to mini-dresses, skinny jeans and jackets, the sketches should get shoppers excited about the many accessories that will soon be available.
The "Material Girl" collection will launch in multiple categories including footwear, handbags and jewelry. It will retail from $12 to $40, comparative with pricing strategies at junior specialty stores. The strategy for growth will include additional categories in the lifestyle and beauty sectors, including fragrance, beginning in 2011.
The fashion deal is the first for MG Icon, a newly formed joint venture between Madonna and Iconix Brand Group, Inc., which owns, licenses and markets a growing portfolio of consumer brands including Candie's, Joe Boxer, Danskin and Roca Wear.
