HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Lil Wayne is getting a bad rap.
The Grammy Award-winning rapper can't shake rumors that he was shot dead at an airport, which have been making the rounds for several days on the Web.
The reports first surfaced on Saturday, with claims that the rap star had been shot six times in his home state of Louisiana. Lil Wayne was said to have found himself in the middle of the ongoing war between the notorious Los Angeles street gangs the Bloods and the Crips.
In reality, Lil Wayne was nowhere near Louisiana over the weekend, as he spent Saturday in New York and Sunday in Virginia Beach. The musician was in the midst of his ongoing concert tour, "Young Money Presents: America's Most Wanted Music Festival," which also features Young Jeezy, Soulja Boy Tell'em and Drake, who is currently battling a knee injury. Sunday's tour stop notably featured a guest performance by Chris Brown, who appeared on stage for the first time since pleading guilty to assaulting Rihanna in February.
Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., won four Grammy Awards in February behind his hit album "Tha Carter III." The New Orleans native recently opened up to MTV about how his crowds have changed since his days as a teen star on Cash Money Records.
"That hit me last tour," said the rapper, who is currently working on a rock album titled "Rebirth." "The last tour, when I was doing a song like 'Bling Bling' ... they would know what I'm talking about, but they don't [now]. Then I would say something like 'Lollipop,' and they'd know exactly what I'm talking about. It's like, 'Wow, I have a new wave of fans.' It's amazing."
