NEW YORK — Lil Wayne has landed in solitary confinement after prison officials determined he was in possession of musical contraband.
The 28-year-old rapper was moved Monday into what jail officials call "punitive segregation" for a month at Rikers Island, the Associated Press reports.
The move was prompted after officials found headphones and a charger for a digital music player inside Lil Wayne's cell back in May. The items were stashed inside a potato chip bag that was sitting in his cell's garbage can.
Lil Wayne will now be confined to his new cell for 23 hours a day, with no television and only one phone call a week instead of daily chats. He'll get out to shower and exercise, but not to eat or socialize.
Lil Wayne began serving a yearlong jail sentence for gun possession on March 8. The Grammy winner will likely remain solo until his release date, which is expected to come in November with time off for good behavior.
