HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Laura Leighton made quite the splash when the CW's new "Melrose Place" debuted Tuesday night.
SPOILER ALERT: As producers promised, the series suffered its first casualty within the opening 10 minutes when Leighton's character Sydney Andrews was discovered floating lifeless in the apartment complex's pool. Of course, Sydney also appeared dead on the original "Melrose" when she was struck by a car on her wedding day. As for her future on the revamped show, Leighton said fans can still expect to see her in flashbacks.
"I thought it was a interesting way to tell the story and fill in the blanks," the 41-year-old actress tells People. "It's moving forward while moving backwards, so we'll see where it takes us."
Leighton said biting her lip for several months about her opening scene wasn't exactly easy.
"It's been difficult, but it was an important secret to keep," she said. "It's a lot easier now that the cat is completely out of the bag."
