HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Lady Gaga was hospitalized six times last year because of her extreme dieting, her former tour manager alleges in a new book about the pop star.
David Ciemny claims the singer would binge on junk food such as cakes and sweets, then not eat for weeks to fit into her costumes - once losing 20 pounds between fittings for one of her outfits.
"When I say she was sick, I mean physically and mentally," Ciemny says in Maureen Callahan's new book, Poker Face: The Rise and Rise of Lady Gaga.
Talent scout Wendy Starland adds, "The pressure on her to lose weight was very high."
Also in the book, the tour manager's wife, Angela, claims she used to accompany Gaga on tour alongside her husband, and the "Paparazzi" singer would cuddle up next to her in bed before performances.
"I would say, 'Gaga, I have a husband to go home to. I'll be in the room next door,' " the woman claims. "She'd call and text me, 'I miss you, Ange, can you come back?' So I would. We literally would do our make-up together every morning and get ready for bed together at night."
The book is set to hit shelves on Sept. 14.
