HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Kim Kardashian may have enjoyed stripping down for the latest issue of Harper's Bazaar, but she has less fond memories of her 2007 pictorial for Playboy.
"I'm sorry I did Playboy. I was uncomfortable," the 29-year-old star tells Harper's, which she appears in as part of the magazine's effort to promote natural beauty.
Looking back on her Playboy experience, Kardashian says she received a lot of encouragement from her mother, Kris Jenner.
"'Go for it,'" she recalls her mother telling her. ""They might never ask you again. Our show isn't on the air yet. No one knows who you are. Do it and you'll have these beautiful pictures to look at when you're my age.'"
Both Kardashian and model Joy Bryant appear naked in Harper's unretouched photo spread, an experience she calls powerful.
"It's definitely scary, but it's very liberating," she says. "I think the message is embrace your curves and who you are. I feel proud if young girls look up to me and say, 'I'm curvy and I'm proud of it now.' "
