HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Kiefer Sutherland is a free man again.
The actor was released from a California jail just after midnight this morning after serving his full 48-day sentence for his second DUI conviction and for violating probation.
The "24" star's stint at Glendale City Jail began on Dec. 5.
"[Kiefer] looked like he was glad to be out," jail spokesman John Balian tells People.
During his stay, Sutherland was outfitted in an orange jumpsuit and housed alone in an 8-by-10-foot cell, however he was not confined to it, as he had access to a larger day room with a TV.
The actor was considered a model citizen while he was behind bars.
"Throughout his stay, he never griped, never complained," Balian previously revealed. "He never wanted preferential treatment from the get go, and we respect him for that."
The actor reportedly spent his days on laundry duty and occasionally doing clean-up work, such as emptying trash bins and mopping up.
In addition to spending Christmas and New Year's behind bars, the actor also "celebrated" his 41st birthday (Dec. 21) in prison.
Sutherland originally planned to spend 18 days in jail during the winter hiatus of "24's" production schedule, and then return to complete his sentence after wrapping up the season later in the year. However, since the ongoing writers' strike halted the show's production, Sutherland decided to ride out the entire 48 consecutive days of his sentence.
