HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Judd Apatow and Seth Rogen dropped by Thursday's "Howard Stern Show" to promote their new film, "Funny People," but not without creating a little controversy.
During their appearance, Apatow and Rogen fired back at their former movie partner Katherine Heigl, who slammed the trio's blockbuster "Knocked Up" during a 2008 interview with Vanity Fair.
"It was a little sexist," Heigl told the mag of the movie. "It paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys. It exaggerated the characters, and I had a hard time with it, on some days. I'm playing such a bitch; why is she being such a killjoy? Why is this how you’re portraying women? Ninety-eight percent of the time it was an amazing experience, but it was hard for me to love the movie."
When asked about the comments, Rogen referenced Heigl's latest film, "The Ugly Truth."
"That sounds like it really puts women on a pedestal," he said.
"I hear there's a scene where she's wearing ... Underwear ... with a vibrator in it, so I'd have to see if that was uplifting for women," quipped Apatow.
Apatow then attempted to defend Heigl by saying that perhaps she had slipped during the interview, which led Rogen to remark: "I didn't slip and I was doing f---ing interviews all day too."
When Stern asked Apatow if he would ever confront Heigl about her comments, he said it would depend on how much coffee he had in his system.
Rogen then pointed out Heigl's track record with upsetting people with her strong remarks, saying they aren't alone in the firing line.
"That's kind of her bag now," he said.
Apatow and Rogen will attempt to get their revenge when "Funny People" goes up against Heigl's film at the box office this weekend.
