HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Jon and Kate Gosselin are officially divorced!
The reality show couple finalized their divorce proceedings on Friday, with Kate receiving the family home in eastern Pennsylvania and primary custody of their eight children, her attorney, Mark Momjian, told the Associated Press.
"Divorce is always a difficult process, and in this case there's obviously the added challenge of being a celebrity and having to deal with the reality of such a large family," Momjian told AP. "But I know she is very excited about restructuring her life and looking forward to the new year."
After months of bitter feuding, Kate said she was thankful for the chance to move forward in her life.
"I am very relieved that our divorce has been finalized, and I look forward to the new year, focusing on the children," she said in a statement. "This has been a challenging transition for all of us."
Kate, 34, and Jon, 32, filed for divorce in June, the same month the decision was discussed on their TLC series Jon & Kate Plus 8.
"Kate and I have decided to separate," said Jon on the episode, which was seen by more than 10 million people. "It's just not good for us to be arguing in front of our kids."
"My goal is peace," Kate added of the split. "If peace needs to be brought about by this, then I'm in agreement."
The announcement came after months of speculation about the couple's marriage, first sparked by rumors that Jon was having an affair.
Last month, TLC aired the final episode of the couple's reality show. The network is moving forward with a rebranded program that will be centered around Kate as a single mother.
