HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Jennifer Hudson is going home for Christmas and inviting viewers along for the ride.
The 28-year-old Oscar-winning star will return to her native Chicago for an hour-long ABC primetime music special titled, "Jennifer Hudson: I'll Be Home for Christmas," the network announced Tuesday.
The special, which is slated to air in December, will follow Hudson as she relives her childhood Christmases with musical performances shot on location, including the music academy where she studied and the small neighborhood church she grew up singing at.
Hudson will also visit with family members, childhood friends and others who have influenced her along the way.
"I am thrilled that Jennifer chose ABC to be the home for her very first holiday special," said Vicki Dummer, senior vice president, Alternative Series, Specials and Late-Night, ABC Entertainment Group. "I can't wait to hear her take on Christmas classics as we discover what she loves about her hometown of Chicago."
An airdate for the program has yet to be finalized.
