HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — "American Idol" runner-up David Archuleta has signed a record deal with 19 Recordings/Jive Records, Billboard.com reports.
The 17-year-old teen sensation joins the man who outlasted him on season seven, David Cook, in signing with the label.
"Signing a record contract with 19 Recordings/Jive Records is truly a dream come true," Archuleta said in a statement to Access Hollywood. "Being a fan of 'American Idol' since season one and admiring the alumni, I am honored and humbled to be a part of that group. I'm really excited to start working on everything."
The Utah native is expected to release his debut album later this year, shortly after completing his stint with the "American Idols Live" tour.
Three of Archuleta's songs have already landed on Billboard's Hot 100 charts in the last few weeks — his cover of John Lennon's "Imagine," his rendition of "Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me" and "In This Moment," which he performed on the "Idol" finale.
The "Idols" tour kicks off July 1 in Glendale, Ariz. and runs through Sept. 13.
