HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Hilary Duff is continuing her transition away from the tween audience by signing on for the upcoming feature film "Stay Cool," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Duff, who rose to fame on the hit Disney TV series "Lizzie McGuire," joins a cast that already includes Winona Ryder, Mark Polish, Sean Astin, Chevy Chase and Jon Cryer.
According to the trade publication, the film revolves around a successful author (Polish) who returns to his old high school to deliver a commencement address to the graduating class. During his return, he must deal with a former high school crush (Ryder) who refused his advances years ago.
The 20-year-old Duff will portray Shasta O'Neil, a sexy high school senior who flirts with the visiting author and invites him to the prom.
Shooting on the film is scheduled to begin next month in Santa Clarita, Calif.
Duff most recently starred opposite John Cusack in the political satire "War, Inc." She also recently completed shooting the films, "Safety Glass" and "Greta," in addition to voicing a character in the upcoming feature "Foodfight!"
The young star will also be back in the studio later this summer to begin recording her fifth music album.
