HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Fans can now catch a glimpse of Heath Ledger's final work as the trailer for "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" was released Monday.
Ledger had only completed half of his work on the movie when he died of an accidental drug overdose on Jan. 22, 2008. However, the project was kept afloat when director Terry Gilliam decided to cast three actors — Johnny Deep, Colin Farrell and Jude Law — to complete the Australian actor's work on the film.
"Heath was enjoying himself so much, and he was ad-libbing a lot, which I don't normally allow ... but Heath was just brilliant at it, and he got everybody else going," Gilliam said at the Cannes Film Festival in May. "Everybody was just energized by Heath. He was extraordinary. He was almost exhausting because he had so much energy."
The film's plot revolves around a traveling magician who sells his daughter to the devil in exchange for a life of extraordinary powers.
Christopher Plummer, Tom Waits, Verne Troyer and Lily Cole also star in the film, which hit theaters on Oct. 16.
The trailer arrives one week after Modest Mouse unveiled the video for their song "King Rat," which marked Ledger's final work as a director. The music video ends with the message: "This began with our friend, a great defender of life, and was completed in his spirit."
