HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Patrick Dempsey turned to a script Wednesday while appearing on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."
The 42-year-old actor was at a loss for words when DeGeneres inquired about the sudden departure of his "Grey's Anatomy" co-star Brooke Smith, who revealed earlier this week that she was shown the door in mid-September.
"ABC actually sent me over what I should respond," Dempsey told the host.
"So ABC's response, this is [what] you should say – 'Brooke Smith has been… We've had a great time working with her and that the conclusion of her has been orgasmic,' " he continued, jokingly. "I'm sorry, I'm dyslexic, 'organic ending to the story line.' "
Dempsey told DeGeneres that he's disappointed that Smith's Dr. Erica Hahn character will no longer be part of the show.
"I think her story line has come to an end," he told DeGeneres. "Thursday night is her last show, which is too bad. She has been a great character and I don't know what happened with that story line. They decided not to continue it for some reason."
