HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Gatorade is the latest brand to cut ties with Tiger Woods.
The sports drink, which is sold by PepsiCo Inc., has ended its endorsement deal with the embattled golfer.
"We no longer see a role for Tiger in our marketing efforts and have ended our relationship," a Gatorade spokeswoman told the Associated Press late Friday. "We wish him all the best."
The spokeswoman said Gatorade would continue its relationship with the Tiger Woods Foundation.
Gatorade discontinued its Woods-brand drinks in November, shortly before the PGA star's image started to take a beating with countless women claiming to have had affairs with him. The fallout resulted in Woods losing major endorsement deals with AT&T and Accenture, among other advertising cutbacks.
Last Friday, the 34-year-old Woods apologized for his "irresponsible and selfish behavior" as he broke his long silence.
"I was unfaithful. I had affairs. I cheated. What I did is not acceptable – and I am the only person to blame," he said. "I stopped living by the core values that I was taught to believe in. I knew my actions were wrong, but I convinced myself that normal rules didn't apply. Instead, I thought only about myself. I ran straight through the boundaries a married couple should live by. I thought I could get away with whatever I wanted to. I felt that I had worked hard my entire life and deserved to enjoy all the temptations around me."
