LOS ANGELES - The family of slain rapper Notorious B.I.G. was dealt a legal setback this week when a judge dismissed its second wrongful death suit against the city of Los Angeles.
U.S. District Judge Florence-Marie Cooper ruled that the rapper's family did not file the claim against the city within the two-year time frame required.
The trial was originally set for February and has now been delayed indefinitely, according to Fox 11 News.
The lawsuit alleged that Los Angeles Police Department officers killed the rapper 10 years ago, and sought unspecified damages on behalf of his mother, wife, and two children. The lawsuit claims that one of the accused officers was working for Death Row Records, Wallace's rival record company.
Attorney Perry Sanders Jr., the family's legal representative, told the Los Angeles Daily Journal he "respectfully disagrees" with the ruling. He added that it is too early to say whether the family will appeal.
Notorious B.I.G., whose real name was Christopher Wallace, was gunned down in 1997 as he was leaving a party at a Los Angeles museum.
