HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Actor Eddie Cibrian is shooting down a tabloid claim that he's been having an affair with his "Northern Lights" co-star, LeAnn Rimes.
"Other than being friends and two actors who were romantically intertwined in a movie-for-television we filmed last fall, there is no truth to the reporting initiated by US Magazine," the 35-year-old actor said in a statement to Access Hollywood on Wednesday. "It is a fabricated story that is using random snapshots as connective tissue to create a scandalous relationship."
The latest issue of Us claims that sparks began to fly between Cibrian and the 26-year-old Rimes on the set of the upcoming Lifetime movie, which debuts on March 21. The magazine's spread includes pictures of the pair allegedly enjoying a romantic evening together in Laguna Beach, Calif. on March 7. Us also claims Rimes and Cibrian met up a week later at the Malibu Beach Inn.
Despite the reported affair, Rimes did not shy away from appearing on Wednesday's "Live with Regis and Kelly." When asked by Regis Philbin about the circulating rumors, Rimes shrugged it off, telling the co-host: "there's rumors all the time."
Rimes also posted a message on her official Web site Wednesday.
"This is a difficult time for me and my loved ones, but I appreciate all your continued support," she wrote. "As you all know, not everything in our lives is always black and white."
Rimes has been married to Dean Sheremet since 2002. The couple met a year earlier when Rimes hosted the Academy of Country Music Awards, in which Sheremet appeared as a dancer.
Cibrian is married to model Brandi Glanville. They married in 2001 and have two sons, Mason, 5, and Jake, 23 months.
Rimes would appear to still have the support of her 28-year-old husband, who offered this update to his Twitter followers Wednesday: "I love my wife!!!"
