HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — "Desperate Housewives" is getting a new cast member, which may very well prove to be a "hit."
Drea de Matteo, the Emmy-winning former "Sopranos" star, is joining the cast at ABC's Wisteria Lane, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The 37-year-old actress will star as the head of a new Italian family in the neighborhood. Casting is currently underway for the role of her husband, a landscape designer, and their neurotic son, the mag says.
The casting of Drea de Matteo, who also starred in the short-lived NBC sitcom "Joey" with Matt LeBlanc, would appear to be a dose of energy following last season's controversial departure of Nicollette Sheridan.
