HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Demi Lovato says she can relate to anyone who has been picked on in school.
Appearing on Wednesday's "Ellen DeGeneres Show," the 16-year-old confessed to being a victim of abuse while she was in the seventh grade.
"I never really understood why it was at the moment until looking back,” said Lovato, who admitted she may have been an easy target since she was an up-and-coming star at the time. "I had a different lifestyle then everyone else. Whether it was because of my hair color or whatever the reason was, I pinned it on myself."
"I think people think if you're pretty, if you're popular, you can take it," she added. "But everyone has their feelings hurt and it doesn’t matter."
Lovato, whose new album, "Don't Forget," is quickly climbing the charts, told DeGeneres that she hopes to use her past experiences to help others in the future.
"I want to help with bullying," she said, "because there are girls who can't just up and home school and focus on their career… Whether you're a girl or a boy."
