NEW YORK — Comedian Greg Giraldo was pronounced dead Wednesday after suffering an accidental overdose over the weekend. He was 44.
Giraldo's death was confirmed by producers on the NBC show Last Comic Standing, where the funnyman served as a judge.
"Greg was one of the most talented comedians of our time. He was truly brilliant. His work will surely continue to influence and inspire us. We will miss our friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family," read the statement.
On Saturday, Giraldo was found unconscious by a friend after he reportedly overdosed on prescription pills at his New Jersey hotel. Sources have insisted to TMZ that the overdose was not a suicide attempt.
Giraldo became a fan favorite thanks to his many appearances on Howard Stern's radio show and Comedy Central's celebrity roasts.
