HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Prepare the sensor buttons, Chelsea Handler has been tapped to host the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards.
"Everyone knows that when you think of rap music and hip-hop you think of Chelsea Lately. And that's why I will be hosting [the show]," Handler quipped when she broke the news Wednesday night on her popular E! show. "Let the ass-kissing begin."
The 35-year-old comedienne becomes just the second woman to host the VMAs solo, following Roseanne Barr in 1994.
Lady Gaga racked up a record 13 nominations to lead the field of contenders for the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. Eminem led all male artists with eight nominations, including best male video and video of the year for "Not Afraid."
On Wednesday, MTV revealed that Justin Bieber and B.o.B have been added to the list of performers. Both artists will be making their VMA debuts when they take the stage, along with previously announced performers Kanye West, Drake and Florence + The Machine.
Ke$ha and Ashley Greene have been added to the previously announced list of presenters, which include Nicki Minaj, Emma Stone, Penn Badgley, Trey Songz, Selena Gomez and Ne-Yo
This year's MTV Video Music Awards will air live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on Sept. 12 at 9 p.m. ET.
