HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Charlie Sheen has entered rehab as a "preventative measure," halting production on his hit CBS series Two and a Half Men.
The 44-year-old actor's rep made the announcement Tuesday, but did not disclose what Sheen was seeking treatment for.
In a joint statement, Sheen's bosses expressed support for the star of television's top-rated comedy.
"CBS, Warner Bros. Television and (Executive Producer) Chuck Lorre support Charlie Sheen in his decision today to begin voluntary inpatient care at a treatment center," the statement said. "We wish him nothing but the best as he deals with this personal matter."
Earlier this month, Sheen was formally charged with felony menacing stemming from a Christmas Day incident in which he allegedly held a knife to wife Brooke Mueller's throat during a holiday getaway. He also faces misdemeanor charges of third-degree assault and criminal mischief. Sheen, who did not enter a plea, is due back in court March 15.
