Edith Fellows, Child Actress of 1930s, Dies at 88

LOS ANGELES – Edith Fellows, a child actress who was the subject of a famous 1936 custody case, has died. She was 88.

Her daughter, Kathy Fields Lander, tells the Los Angeles Times that Fellows died of natural causes Sunday at the Motion Picture & Television Fund retirement home in Los Angeles.

Fellows' mother abandoned her as an infant, and she was raised by her grandmother, who brought her to Hollywood. She made about 50 movies in the 1930s, '40s and '50s, including the 1936 film "Pennies from Heaven." She later turned to the stage and TV.

'Bewitched' Creator Sol Saks Dies in LA at 100

LOS ANGELES – Friends and family say the writer who created the television comedy "Bewitched" has died. Sol Saks was 100.

Saks' wife Sandra says he died Saturday at Sherman Oaks Hospital in Los Angeles, where he was being treated for pneumonia.

Saks wrote the pilot script for "Bewitched," but he never wrote another episode of the ABC series about a witch married to a mortal. The show starring Elizabeth Montgomery ran from 1964 to 1972.

Longtime friend Paul Wayne told the Los Angeles Times that the pilot script earned Saks royalties for life.

LONDON – Elisabeth Sladen, a star sidekick of the "Doctor Who" series and a popular children's show actress, has died of cancer Tuesday, the BBC said. She was 63.

Sladen joined the broadcaster in 1973 as Doctor Who's assistant Sarah Jane Smith, an investigative journalist-turned-intrepid time traveler whose on-screen energy and tongue-in-cheek delivery eventually gave her career an unlikely second act in her own spin-off series, "The Sarah Jane Adventures."

Tiger Beat Teen Mag Founder Charles Laufer Dies

LOS ANGELES – Charles Laufer, who published Tiger Beat and other fan magazines that breathlessly covered the doings of teen idols, has died at age 87.

His daughter, Teena Naumann, tells the Los Angeles Times that Laufer died of natural causes on April 5 at Northridge Hospital Medical Center.

Laufer was teaching at a Norwalk, Calif., high school in the 1950s when he came up with the idea for a student-oriented magazine called Coaster. He later changed the name to Teen.

Folk Singer, Highwaymen Member Gil Robbins Dies

LOS ANGELES – Gil Robbins, a folk singer, guitarist and member of the early 1960s group the Highwaymen, has died. He was 80.

Robbins died Tuesday at his home in Esteban Cantu, Mexico, Tracey Jacobs said Saturday night in an email to The Associated Press. Jacobs is a publicist for Robbins' son, the actor and director Tim Robbins.

Sidney Lumet, '12 Angry Men' and 'Network' Director, Dies

Lumet's death was confirmed by relatives and friends, who said he died early Saturday morning at his Manhattan home. He had suffered from lymphoma.
