HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Bret Michaels will undergo heart surgery in January, a procedure that was first expected to take place this year.
"It's for the hole his heart," his rep tells E! Online. "I don't know any specifics."
Doctors discovered the hole back in May, when Michaels also suffered a warning stroke. Both medical scares came after the 47-year-old rocker survived a massive brain hemorrhage on April 21.
Michaels previously said the heart surgery would take place in the fall after his body was fully clear of the medicines being used to help him recuperate from his health scares.
The singer won't be taking much of a break after the heart surgery. He plans to hit the road by March to promote his upcoming autobiography, Roses & Thorns: The Reality of My Rock & Roll Fantasy.
"The next thing he has is his book tour [beginning] March 15, on his birthday," his publicist said. "After the holidays, he'll do [the heart surgery] and then have time to heal before the whole book publicity campaign."
Michaels is currently in the midst of his Roses and Thorns tour, which runs until early December.
