NEW YORK — Steven Page, a singer-guitarist for the Barenaked Ladies, was arrested in New York last Friday for alleged cocaine possession.
Page, 38, was arrested along with two other women. Both Page and his friend, Stephanie Ford, 25, were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance. Ford was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.
Both were arraigned in Manlius Town Court and released after posting bail — $10,000 for Page and $5,000 for Ford.
The arrests came as a result of police noticing something suspicious around 2 a.m. in an apartment located in the village of Fayette.
"As [the officers] approached the apartment they saw people in the window sitting at a table and it looked like they were engaged in something," Manlius Police Capt. Bill Bleyle told the National Post. "There was a white capsule and a white powdery substance that later tested positive for cocaine."
A third person from the same apartment, Christine Benedito, was arrested later that same morning in connection with the drugs that were found. She was not home at the time of the first arrests.
All three are scheduled to appear in Village of Fayetteville Justice Court on Thursday.
"We can not comment because the matter is before the court," a rep for the band told TMZ. "We are confident that our client Steven will be completely exonerated. Until that time it is business as usual for the Barenaked Ladies."
