LONDON — Blake Fielder-Civil, the husband of Grammy-winning singer Amy Winehouse, was sentenced to 27 months in jail on Monday for assault and obstructing justice.
Blake Fielder-Civil, 26, previously admitted to beating up pub manager James King at a bar in June 2006. He later offered King, who needed plates in his face to fix a broken cheek-bone as a result of the brawl, $400,000 to stay silent.
Judge David Radford told Fielder-Civil that he had behaved in a "cowardly and disgraceful" manner, London's The Times reported.
Fielder-Civil has been in jail ever since he was arrested in November. With nine months of time already served, he could be released as early as December after completing half of his sentence.
Winehouse and Fielder-Civil were married on May 18, 2007 in Miami, Fla. The 24-year-old singer has admittedly struggled with substance abuse ever since her husband was taken away.
"To be honest, my husband's away, I'm bored, I'm young," she recently told Rolling Stone. "I felt like there was nothing to live for. It's just been a low ebb."
