LONDON — Amy Winehouse has hit another sour note in her career.
The 25-year-old singer was charged with assault Thursday for allegedly attacking a fan at a London charity ball last September.
Winehouse went voluntarily to the police station, where she was arrested and charged. She has since been released and is due in court on March 17.
According to published reports, the incident took place at the End of Summer Ball in London's Berkeley Square on Sept. 26. A dancer, identified as Sherene Flash, claims Winehouse hit her in the eye after she asked the British retro-soul singer to take her picture.
Winehouse has experienced her share of problems with substance abuse and run-ins with the law in recent time. In addition to several stints in rehab, she received a police warning last year after fighting with two men while partying at Camden's Dublin Castle pub.
Winehouse recently returned to England after an extended Caribbean vacation. Her return home included a move into the quieter Hadley Wood area of Enfield.
