HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Actress Eva Mendes is currently in rehab at Utah's Cirque Lodge, the same treatment facility that recently housed Lindsay Lohan.
"Eva has been working hard for the past year and made a positive decision to take some much-needed time off to proactively attend to some personal issues that, while not critical, she felt deserved some outside professional support," her rep says in a statement.
"Out of respect for Eva's privacy, we do not wish to discuss further details."
The news was first reported by TMZ, which said the 33-year-old Mendes was battling substance abuse problems and had been at the treatment facility for several weeks.
Mendes worked her way up through commercials to music videos (including an appearance in Will Smith's video "Miami") before making a name for herself when she co-starred with Denzel Washington in 2001's "Training Day." She went on to work with Smith on the big screen, playing his love interest in the 2005 comedy "Hitch."
Mendes, who was born in Miami and raised in Los Angeles, was most recently seen on the big screen in the crime drama "We Own the Night."
The Cuban-American actress, who was recently signed to appear in an upcoming ad campaign for a Calvin Klein fragrance, will next star this fall in a remake of the stage and screen comedy "The Women," co-starring Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Debra Messing, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Bette Midler.
