Actor Kelsey Grammer Hospitalized with Irregular Heartbeat

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Kelsey Grammer has been hospitalized with an irregular heartbeat, mere days after confessing that he nearly died from the heart attack he suffered last month while in Hawaii.

The 53-year-old actor was admitted to a hospital in New York City Sunday evening. It is believed that his condition may be the result of the medication he has been taking for his heart condition. He is expected to be released on Tuesday.

Grammer was forced to cancel several television appearances that were scheduled for Monday to promote the political comedy "Swing Vote," which opens on Friday.

Initially, the star's publicist, Stan Rosenfield, told the media that Grammer had suffered a mild heart attack while paddle-boarding in June with his wife, Camille. But the "Cheers" and "Frasier" star revealed last week that it was far more serious, telling Entertainment Tonight that it was not mild after all. In fact, he nearly died because his heart stopped.

"They had to blast me twice and get me started all over again," he told ET. "I did think: 'Oh gosh, I have got to hang on. I've got too much junk I've got to take care of. I've got to take care of the family.'"

Three weeks prior to his hospitalization, Grammer learned Fox was canceling his sitcom "Back to You," in which he starred alongside Patricia Heaton, after just one season.

"Obviously you play the hand you're dealt, and it has been a very interesting hand lately; it has been tough," he admitted.

Grammer rose to fame for his portrayal of Dr. Frasier Crane on the NBC series "Cheers." The character later led to the spinoff series "Frasier," which extended Grammer's portrayal of the psychiatrist for 20 years.
