HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Is Taylor Swift singing about ex-boyfriend Taylor Lautner on her new single "Back to December?"
"The song 'Back to December' is an apology in the form of a song," the 20-year-old country star explains on her upcoming NBC special, Taylor Swift: Speak Now, airing Thanksgiving night. "You know, in life, you learn lessons. And sometimes you learn them the hard way. Sometimes you learn them too late."
The hour-long special features nine one-of-a-kind performances, including intimate takes on Swift's songs "Mine," "Sparks Fly," "Story of Us," "Long Live," "Haunted," "Mean," "Back to December," "Enchanted," and the title track of her new album "Speak Now."
"The song 'Back to December' is about a lesson I learned too late," Swift says. "And I think, when you do that, and you finally realize that you were wrong, you need to say you're sorry. And this was the best way that I knew how."
Swift has never confirmed rumors that the song was written for Lautner, whom she briefly dated last year. However, the singer recently admitted that she won't cling to a relationship that she knows isn't met to last.
"I'm typically single a lot," Swift tells Allure magazine for its December issue. "I have a phobia about being in the wrong relationship, so as soon as I establish it's not the right one I don't want to waste their time."
