LOS ANGELES — Actor Bill Erwin, who scored an Emmy nomination for his memorable guest role as a cranky old man on Seinfeld, has died. He was 96.
Erwin passed away on Dec. 29 of age-related causes at his home in Studio City, Calif. home, his son told the Los Angeles Times.
The Honey Grove, Texas native received an Emmy nod for his grumpy Sid Fields character on a 1993 Seinfeld episode titled "Old Man."
The character actor is also known for his role as Arthur the bellman in the 1980 fantasy film Somewhere in Time.
Erwin began his Hollywood career in 1941, landing a role in the movie You're in the Army Now. His long career spanned movies, theater and television, where his acting credits included such shows as The Twilight Zone, Gunsmoke, Perry Mason, The Golden Girls, Growing Pains, Who's the Boss? and My Name is Earl.
