HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — John Dye, who starred on the popular television series Touched by an Angel, has died. He was 47.
The actor suffered a fatal heart attack Monday at his San Francisco home, his brother revealed yesterday to The Commercial Appeal. His family said they kept the death private until they could organize a public memorial in his native Mississippi.
Dye played the Angel of Death on all nine seasons of the CBS series from 1994 to 2003. His other TV credits include The Young and the Restless, Murder, She Wrote and Promised Land.
Actress Valerie Bertinelli, who co-starred with Dye on Touched by an Angel, paid tribute on her Twitter page, writing: "Dear, sweet John Dye, rest in peace."
Dye's public memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. on Jan. 22 at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church in his hometown of Amory, where his parents still live.
