BOSTON — Hold off on those wedding gifts for Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen.
According to the football star's father, the story that broke last week about the couple getting engaged is completely bogus.
"(The engagement story is) rumor, rumor, rumor. ... We don't know a thing about it. Nobody told me. We talked to him and there's nothing to say," Tom Brady Sr. tells The Boston Globe.
TMZ reported last week that the football star had proposed to his model girlfriend while flying with her parents on a private jet from New Jersey to Boston. The plane was reportedly packed with champagne and four-dozen white roses to celebrate the occasion.
Bündchen's twin sister, Patricia, also dismissed the story, telling journalists that the engagement hoopla is "not true."
Brady, 31, and Bündchen, 28, have been dating since the New England Patriots quarterback split with actress Bridget Moynahan, with whom he has a 16-month-old son, in 2006.
A spokesperson for the Patriots, who were shut out of the playoffs on Sunday, also expressed skepticism to People.
"I heard the report that he (proposed) on a plane, but I don't think it's true," the spokesperson said of Brady, who was sidelined almost the entire season after suffering a severe knee injury.
"Tom keeps his private life private," he added.
