HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds are the latest Hollywood couple to call it quits.
The duo plans to divorce after two years of marriage, they confirmed Tuesday to TMZ.
"After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we've decided to end our marriage," they said in a joint statement. "We entered our relationship with love and it's with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn't expected, it's certainly appreciated."
Johannson, 26, and Reynolds, 34, began dating in 2007. They married a year later at a wilderness retreat in the actor's hometown of Vancouver, Canada.
A source tells People that Johansson secretly initiated the split about six month ago. No other details about the breakup were revealed.
Like their wedding, the couple kept their relationship private and rarely took photographs together. However, Reynolds did speak about his marriage in a recent interview with GQ magazine, calling it the "best part" of his life.
"Things change when you get married in general," he said in October. "But in terms of being a couple that's in a public situation and speculated about and all that nonsense, it's changed a little bit."
He added, "I'm a little more guarded, I think. I'm a little bit more wary of having my relationship turning into a soap opera."
