HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds may be calling it quits, but unlike some other recent Hollywood divorces, cheating did not play a part in their breakup.
"There's no third party," a source close to the duo tells People. "Ryan and Scarlett had been having some issues for a few months now. Distance and their careers played a big role. When you don't spend a lot of time with your partner you grow apart."
Johannson, 26, and Reynolds, 34, announced their split on Tuesday. A source close to Reynolds said the couple's marriage has been on the rocks for some time.
"At first it was ... let's fix this," the insider told the mag. "And then it got to the point where it was just, if it's not working, it's not working. He's an adult, and he finally just said they should stop."
The source also pointed out that Johansson's age may have been a factor in not being able to solve their differences. "She's young, and that played into how she's able to deal with things," they said.
"They're doing it this way because there's no drama, there's no cheating, there's no nothing," added the insider. "These are just two people who love each other who are not going to be together anymore."
