LONDON – Hundreds of protesters have marched through central London to call for a public inquiry into the death of British reggae star Smiley Culture.
The singer, whose real name was David Emmanuel, died of a single stab wound through the heart while police officers were executing a search warrant at his home.
His family has been told he stabbed himself while making a cup of tea despite the presence of officers in his home. They say the police explanation of his death is "bizarre."
About 600 protesters playing reggae music marched through London then rallied outside police headquarters Saturday.
Emmanuel, who was 48 when he died March 15, shot to fame in the 1980s with hits such as "Cockney Translation" and "Police Officer."
