MARSEILLE, France — Madonna's "Sticky and Sweet" tour turned tragic Thursday when at least one person was killed after the roof of her stage collapsed during set-up in France.
Two others were severely injured, with four more being injured lightly, according to local officials.
A fire department spokesman tells CNN that the worker killed was a 53-year-old French man. His name has yet to be released.
The accident occurred as workers were preparing the stage for Madonna's show on Sunday at the Velodrome Stadium in Marseilles. The concert has since been cancelled.
"At this point we don't know how it happened, but we are confident no one else is still under the rubble," officer David Goddin told CNN.
"I am devastated to have just received this tragic news," Madonna said in a statement Thursday through her spokesperson Liz Rosenberg. "My prayers go out to those who were injured and their families along with my deepest sympathy to all those affected by this heartbreaking news."
Madonna's ongoing "Sticky and Sweet" world tour kicked off last October at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J.
