HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Katy Perry admits she struggled with her body image back in the day.
"I was shaped like a square at one time. I was!" the pop star tells the March issue of Elle magazine. "I'm generally around 130 pounds, which is totally fine for me. But when I was a kid, I was the same height and weighed more like 145."
Perry was also extremely self-conscious about her 32D breasts.
"I had enormous boobs that I didn't know what to do with, so I wore minimizers, which were not cute," she explains. "Those thick-ass straps! I got made fun of for the over-the-shoulder boulder holder…and all I wanted was to look like Kate Moss. Little did I know…that these things would come in handy someday."
The singer has since become known for her provocative image, something Perry refuses to apologize for. "I'm a sexy girl, so what?" she says. "I never claimed I was a nun!"
When the topic turns to falling in love with Russell Brand, Perry explains it was all about timing and both stars needing "balance" in their lives.
"Everything clicked really fast," she says. "We kind of instantly got past all the surfacey stuff. And ever since then, there hasn't been a dull moment."
Now married, Perry says the twosome is making sure to balance work with their personal lives.
"I think you can have it all," she says. "You just have to work really hard, because great things don’t come easily. Everyone's been told that marriage is hard work, and it is: You have to make time for the things you love."
