HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Ted Williams, the homeless man with the golden voice, has left rehab in Texas against the advice of his doctors.
Williams, 53, checked into the Origins Recovery Center less than two weeks ago at the urging of Dr. Phil McGraw.
"Ted was given the chance to voluntarily enter a drug rehabilitation facility in order to help him in dealing with his dependency on drugs and alcohol," McGraw said Monday. "In that it is voluntary, the decision to remain in treatment is Ted's to make."
Williams recently became an overnight sensation after the Columbus Dispatch posted a clip of his voiceover skills online. The newspaper had discovered Williams holding a sign advertising his skills along an Ohio highway.
After the video went viral on YouTube, Williams made an appearance on NBC's Today Show and began fielding job offers from the Cleveland Cavaliers and Kraft Foods, to name a few. He also met with McGraw to discuss his addiction problems, which led to his rehab stint.
