HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Shakira has gone solo.
The Colombian pop star and longtime boyfriend Antonio de la Rúa have split after 11 years of dating, they revealed Monday in a message posted on Shakira's website.
"Since August 2010, we made a mutual decision to take time apart from our romantic relationship," they said of their breakup. "Throughout this time we have continued to work together hand in hand, have remained close and have kept the details absolutely private until now."
They added, "We view this period of separation as temporary and as a time of individual growth as we continue to be partners in our business and professional lives."
Shakira and de la Rúa called their time together "the most wonderful years of our lives." They also plan to continue their working relationship despite the split.
"We move forward as partners, developing projects together, working hand in hand and in close communication," they said. "Our friendship and understanding of one another is unwavering and indestructible."
Shakira, 33, has been linked to Spanish soccer star Gerard Piqué in recent months, but she's denied they're dating.
