LONDON — Keira Knightley and Rupert Friend have called it quits after five years together.
"Yes, they have broken up," the star's father, Will Knightley, confirmed when reached by British tabloid The Sun. "But that's the way things go, unfortunately. The only option is to get on with things."
The two began dating after meeting on the set of the 2005 film Pride & Prejudice. They reportedly split shortly before Christmas after having a heart-to-heart.
"They were together for quite a long time and it is always hard breaking up," added Knightley's father. "She's focused on her work."
So what caused the breakup? A source tells the tabloid that Knightley, 25, and Friend, 29, struggled with having their relationship played out in the media.
"Rupert hates the idea of being followed and photographed. Keira partially had to accept it because of her rising profile," explained the insider. "It affected the harmony in the relationship. The pressure took its toll and both decided they should go their separate ways. They will remain life-long friends."
