HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Britney Spears won't be spending her summer at the beach.
According to a statement released Tuesday by her manager Larry Rudolph and Jive Records, the 26-year-old singer "is spending her summer in the recording studio, working on a brand new album."
"She's working with a team of top-notch producers and songwriters, and we're very excited about what she's accomplished so far," the statement read. "No album release date has been confirmed yet."
The Louisiana native's last album, "Blackout," was released last October and debuted at No. 2 on the U.S. Billboard 200. The album's first single, "Gimme More," was her most successful single in the U.S. since her 1998 debut "...Baby One More Time."
Spears has bounced back quickly after a rough start to the year, in which she had two well-publicized visits to the hospital. Her ongoing custody battle with her ex-husband Kevin Federline has improved, and she also made headlines with two well-received appearances on CBS' "How I Met Your Mother."
More recently, the pop star teamed up with Madonna to film a video segment for the "Material Girl's" upcoming "Sticky & Sweet" tour. Rudolph says much of the turnaround is due to the people that have surrounded Spears since she hit rock bottom.
"She's got people around her that really care about her and are there to point her in the right direction in respect to the things she should be concentrating on — her life," he told People in May.
"Britney is getting back in touch with Britney," he added. "And she's doing an amazing job at that."
