NEW YORK — The Piano Man just got a tuneup.
Singer Billy Joel is recovering after undergoing a double hip surgery last week to treat a congenital ailment, his ex-wife, Christie Brinkley, revealed Wednesday.
"He did them both at the same time," the model told RadarOnline. "Billy said, 'If I do it one at a time I know I'll never go in for the other.' "
Brinkley said the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer had been using a cane to get around prior to the surgery, which she deemed a success.
"He's really doing well ... really coming through with flying colors," she said. "He's making it look easy."
Joel, 61, rose to fame in the 1970s behind such hits as "New York State of Mind," "Just the Way You Are" and "She's Always a Woman."
